China May Not Be Able To Export Onions And Potatoes To Sri Lanka
- May 28, 2018 -

The Sri Lankan government has asked a committee under the leadership of a minister to draft a plan for the protection of local onion and potato farmers. Sri Lanka has extensive onion plantations in Matale, Jaffna, and Puthalam; and potato plantations in Bandarawela and Nuwara Eliya. Farmers often encounter difficulties in sales and the prices are far from ideal.

The minister stated that they will employ measures to protect farmers from exploitation by traders and guarantee them a fair price. He further stated that if necessary they would limit the import of onions and potatoes during the harvest season in Sri Lanka.
